Standings after Saturday – the teams down as far as =14th will participate in the A Final on Sunday, the remainder in the B Final. Please register as appropriate.

The Holmes Wilson Cup will take place virtually on BBO over the weekend of 13-14 February. This competition is open to Master and Intermediate A grades only. Pre-entry is required, via the online entry system http://competitions.cbai.ie/. If you have problems registering, please give us a call on (01) 4929666 and we can take your entry.

The event will consist of three sessions, as follows: two on Saturday 13:00 – 16:30, and 18:00 – 21:30, and one on Sunday 11:00 – 14:30 (end times approximate in each case). BBO does not lend itself to replicating the in-person running of the Holmes Wilson, which was our original intention, so we have had to make some changes to the format. For the third session on the Sunday, the field will be divided into A (for the top 14 teams) and B (for the remainder of the field) finals. There will be a full carryover of scores from Saturday, but scoring on the Sunday will be manual, so any running scores published will be strictly subject to confirmation. You will need to register for the first session and pay the entry fee of BB$15. Please register on BBO no later than 12:45, in case of any issues. You will be automatically registered for the second session, so you don’t need to do anything then. But you will need to register again on the Sunday morning, choosing the A or B final as appropriate (details of the standings, and of which final you are in, will be published here and on www.fob.ie); there will be no additional charge for this third session. Again, please register on Sunday by 10:45 at the latest.

You’ll find full instructions on how to register for BBO teams events here. If you are in any doubt on the process, please allow yourself plenty of time, in case things go wrong. For emergency help, you can contact any of Fearghal O’Boyle (086-2652871), Mairead Basquille (087-9274448) or Diarmuid Reddan (086-8236618) on the day, but please bear in mind that they will all be busy at that time.

One piece of good news as a result of these changes is that for those of you for whom it would have been impossible to survive between the close on Saturday and the restart on Sunday without playing on BBO (we are looking at you, Maria Whelan!), you no longer have to do so.

As with all our virtual events this season, this one will be played essentially for recreation; Masterpoints will be awarded, but national titles (where relevant) and monetary prizes will not.

Enjoy the weekend!
