ECats, the firm which runs our two annual simultaneous pairs events, has informed us that they will be holding a special simultaneous pairs week, from 11-14 April, with the proceeds going to charities involved in Ukraine.

We are sure you are all horrified by what is happening in Ukraine, and will agree that this represents the most deserving of causes; we have promised ECATs that we will promote the event within the CBAI. We won’t be involved in the organization of the event, however, so if your club is interested in playing, please contact Anna Gudge of ECats directly. Her email address is anna@ecats.co.uk.

ECats will be able to accommodate your club into the simultaneous pairs whether you are playing online or face-to-face, and you can charge whatever you wish. BBO has confirmed that it will apply its normal reduced charity rate to any simultaneous pairs events held that week, and the CBAI will waive its BBO handling charge entirely.

The following CBAI virtual clubs are also running OPEN games (so any CBAI member can play) in aid of Ukraine, and would welcome your support. In each case BBO is once again applying its reduced charity rate and the CBAI is waiving its charge entirely:

  • D15 Club: Tuesday 5 April on BBO, starting at 2:00 p.m. The entry fee will be BB$10. Look for the CBAI125521 code to find their tournament, and contact is Ronnie Woods.
  • Dundalk Bridge Club: Sunday 1 May on BBO, starting at 5:00 p.m. The entry fee will be BB$6. Look for the CBAI125512 code, and contact is Bernadette Brennan. (In aid of St Vincent de Paul and Ukrainian Relief Aid)
