The pride of Galway, Gay Keaveney, recently sat down for an interview on The Galway Podcast, following such notables as Sharon Shannon, John Robb, and Frank Fahy.

In a fascinating hour-long discussion, Gay discusses his achievements in competitive bridge, how he enjoys the role of the tournament director, the challenges and achievements, how bridge is misrepresented as an older people’s sport, how and why people of all ages could and should get involved in bridge, the history of the Galway Bridge Centre and the ingenious way in which the local clubs acquired the building, some of the notable players he has played with including the inimitable Michael O’Kane, the late Paddy Walsh, and his son David who runs the Lapteck business in Galway city centre, the social aspect of bridge, the two halves of the game (bidding and playing), being called upon for advice by other tournament directors, including Ireland’s leading director Fearghal O’Boyle, why he advises that you should play a simple game, and various other topics.

Enjoy the podcast, and we’re sure Gay would welcome any feedback.
