The 2nd WBF Online Women’s Teams will be played on RealBridge January 3-5, 2025, and all female players are welcome to play.
This second running has been scheduled due to the great success of the inaugural event in February when 64 teams took part. Seabass (USA) emerged victorious, with Wimps (USA) second and Hungary third.
The feedback was great, and players enjoyed meeting teams from across the world in a competitive yet friendly atmosphere on RealBridge. This time the event is transnational, so you can play with partners and teammates from any bridge federation. The link to information is on the WBF website and Team Captains are invited to register. We’re calling on all women players to save the date January 3-5, to register to play and make our Women’s Online teams a great start to 2025! Entries close on 7 December.
The WBF Women’s Newsletter has just been published. Annaïg Della Monta and Anne-Lill Hellemann reflect on their gold medals in the EBL Women’s Online Teams and the Herning European Championships respectively, regular contributors Mark Horton, Sophia Baldysz, Lone Bilde, Suzi Subeck are joined by Aaida Abu Jaber, Marc-André Fourcaudot, Kim Frazer, Jeanne van den Meiracker and Carina Wademark to bring bridge stories from across the globe. Future contributors are very welcome. Information on the WBF Online Teams can also be found in the Newsletter.
You’ll also find an article encouraging women to take on the role of Tournament Director. At the top level within bridge, both internationally and here in Ireland, the gender balance is very lopsided, with male TDs far outnumbering female ones. There does not seem to be any logical reason for this, and we would really like to see more women TDs officiating at our competitions. If you have any interest in becoming a TD, please let us know.
