Unfortunately, Irish participation in the main events at the World Bridge Games came to an end last night, as the Open Team fell to an agonising 83-80 defeat to Poland in the round of 16. This was the tightest margin of any of the matches in the Open, Senior, or Mixed series, although spare a thought for the Polish Women, who, having topped the qualifying group in the Women’s Series, lost by a single Victory Point to China in the first round of the playoffs.
All three of the Irish teams have asked us to pass on their gratitude to all the Irish bridge players who sent them messages of support, either before or during the tournament, and especially to those who contributed to any of the fundraising efforts.
