We are sad to announce the death of Pat Ryan, after a long illness.
Pat was a wonderful bridge player, and a lively and vibrant personality. She won seven national titles, all in partnership or on teams with her long-term partner and great friend Pat MacMahon, the earliest being the Civil Service Cup (at the time the Junior Pairs Championship) in 1978 and the most recent being the Jackson Cup (Women’s National Pairs Championship) in 2016. She and Pat also represented Ireland in the Lady Milne Trophy and in both World and European Women’s Teams Championships. Pat was also an excellent and much-loved bridge teacher, responsible for the introduction and development of many very keen players. If a newcomer arrived from Pat’s classes, everyone knew they had been well taught!
We extend our sympathies to her beloved husband Paddy, with whom she recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, to her children, Kilian, Orla, Declan, Niamh, Nessa, and Shane, and to all Pat’s extended family and friends, especially the many lifelong friends she made at the bridge table. She will be sadly missed by the Dublin bridge community. May she rest in peace.
