The CBAI hosted its first live bridge event since February 2020 on 30 October, with the Duais an Uachtarain (President’s Prize) being held in the Kingsley Hotel in Cork.

A big thank you to our hosts, CBAI President Pat O’Mahony and his South Munster colleagues, especially Regional Secretary Linda O’Riordan, CDO Bernie O’Halloran, and Regional President Bart Van Oyen, for their warm welcome and excellent preparation, and above all for ensuring that all health protocols were observed. Thanks also to Brian Lawlor, who stepped in at short notice as Tournament Director after an enforced change of plans. We were pleased with the turnout of 20 tables, and everyone seemed pleased to be back at the table again after such a long break.

The winners were John & Kelan O’Connor of Kerry, who overtook local pair Tom McCarthy & Derek O’Gorman in the final round. Anne Dillon & Cian Holland were third, and Liz Taaffe & Cynthia Coyne fourth. The best Area Masters were Bart Van Oyen & Oliver Morgan, while Pat Twomey & Tadhg Harrington were the best Intermediates. The first session prize went to Catherine McCann & Brendan Martin, while the recently-retired Paul Porteous & Norma Madden took the second session prize. Full results here.
