The first major competition of the new season was held over the weekend of 14/15 September, the Duais an Uachtarain (President’s Prize) hosted by CBAI President Catherine Byrne in the lovely setting of the Portmarnock Hotel & Links.
There was an excellent entry of 82 pairs, and all seemed to enjoy themselves, with excellent feedback on the venue. A few even had time for a quick stroll on the beach between Saturday’s sessions. The prizewinners were:
- 1st Place: Anna Carr & Margaret Farren
- 2nd Place: BJ O’Brien & Diarmuid Reddan (the former narrowly missing out on a hat-trick of Duais wins)
- 3rd Place: Marcin Rudzinski & Michelle Moloney
- 4th Place: David Redmond & Liam Gaynor
- Best Regional Masters: Keith Clarke & Cathal Louth
- Best Area Masters: Nora Weafer & Mary Deane
- Best Intermediates: Veronica Buttimer & Helena Browner
- 2nd Regional Masters: Vivienne & John Murray
- 2nd Area Masters: Kay Goldsworthy & Tim Carroll
- 2nd Intermediates: Sandra Peden & Linda Walsh
- Session Prizes: Olive Kilbane & Una Flynn; John Reilly & Rosalind O’Brien; Fred Barry & Paul Porteous
