Many congratulations to Tom Hanlon, whose team came third in the prestigious Roth Open Swiss Teams at the recent North American Bridge Championships in Toronto. The team also had a good run in the Spingold Teams, reaching the last 16 and losing to an eventual semi-finalist. That first major North American championship continues to elude Tom, but hopefully it’s not too far away. His next opportunity will be in Las Vegas in November.

The CBAI and IBU fixture list for season 2024/25 is complete, and available on the website calendar. The CBAI pre-Christmas events are also now open for online entry – Duais an Uachtarain in the Portmarnock Links Hotel on 14/15 September (three sessions), the Mixed Championship Weekend in Templeogue on 12/13 October (Pairs for the Spiro Cup on the Saturday, Teams for the Coen Trophy on the Sunday), and the Master Pairs in Templeogue on 14/15 December (three sessions).

Finally, some news for our bridge teachers. We have not had a Teachers’ Development Workshop since the pandemic, and the Teaching Committee will be rectifying that in October, with a special set of seminars, from expert teachers, planned for the bank holiday weekend (26/27 October) in the Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore. We’re currently finalising the programme, and will communicate it, and the cost of attending, which we plan to keep to the minimum, to all our registered teachers shortly. Places will be limited, so if you’d like to reserve a place at this stage, please contact Fran Ronan in the office (01-4929666) on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
