The CBAI’s Master Pairs competition was held over the weekend of 14/15 December, with a completely full house in Templeogue. In fact, we had a waiting list of pairs wishing to play; while most did indeed get in, a small number did not – apologies that we were unable to facilitate them, as the venue was full to capacity. This year’s entry represented an increase of more than 10% on last season’s (already very strong) turnout.

For the second year, the competition was sponsored by ALHomecare, whose Managing Director, Tom Quinlan, attended the Sunday session of the event to introduce his firm to CBAI members, and to join the presentation party for the prizegiving, alongside CBAI National President Catherine Byrne. Our thanks to all who participated, and to our TD crew of Fearghal O’Boyle, Mairead Basquille, and Bernard Higgins, ably assisted by two caddies Emily and Orlagh, who made sure everything went smoothly.

The prizewinners were:

  • 1st Pat McDaid & Zrinka Kokot

We also took the opportunity to present his silver Grand Master salver to David Walsh of Galway, who has become the thirty-fifth CBAI member of that most exclusive club. Well done to David, who as well as being a great player is a great ambassador for the game. You’ll find his full Grand Master notice here.
