The National Teams Championships were held over the weekend in the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise, a new venue which was very well-received by the players. We had a full turnout for the Open competition, but some gaps for the Intermediate As and Bs, with one region not sending any teams at all, which was disappointing. The prizewinners were:

It was some weekend for the North Midland contingent. Not alone did the region do the double by winning both the Intermediate A and B competitions, but their Intermediate B Team did a double of their own, retaining the Tierney Trophy they won last year. And Joan Peppard and Tom Roche completed an unprecedented hat-trick, having won the Civil Service Cup (National Intermediate B Pairs Championship) in between their two teams victories.
The two wins, combined with a solid mid-table performance from their Open team, saw the North Midland Region take home the Marie Cummins Trophy as the best-performing region across all three competitions. Our thanks to the TDs, Fearghal O’Boyle, Mairead Basquille, and Diarmuid Reddan, for making sure everything ran smoothly.
