Final call for entries for the Regent BC Open Leagues for 2021/22. The club will run teams tournaments for the following grades – Open, Area Master, and Intermediate. It is intended to offer the choice of online or in-person matches in the club (once the latter can be accommodated safely), so teams from all locations are welcome. Anyone interested in these leagues can enter on the Regent Bridge Club website. The Regent also continues to offer the following open online events for all CBAI members – Monday (Master IMPs, Intermediates, Novices), Tuesday (Intermediates), Wednesday (Intermediates, Novices), and Friday (Intermediates), all starting at 19:30. Details of all these open competitions are on the club website.

Additionally, Bridge Great Britain invites entries for the 2022 Gold Cup. Quite a few Irish teams played in this event, billed as “the most prestigious teams event in the British bridge calendar”, online last year. The intention this year is to hold rounds one and two online, with subsequent rounds face-to-face, provided government regulations allow (and with an option for teams to agree to play online if preferred). You’ll find full details, including costs and an entry form here. Entries close on 30 September. (The 2021 version is still ongoing, but unfortunately the last Irish team – Team Pigot, featuring Peter Pigot, Ciaran Coyne, Gay Keaveney, Enda Glynn, David Walsh, and Donal MacAonghusa – bowed out at the quarter-final stage with a heartbreaking 1 IMP defeat after 64 boards. Well done to them on carrying the Irish flag so far, but unfortunately we will not have back-to-back Irish winners; the winners in 2020 were Team Moran – Mark Moran, Tommy Garvey, John Carroll, Tom Hanlon, Adam Mesbur, and Nick FitzGibbon.)
