The IBU Mixed Trials started in February 2020 was completed over the weekend, and the team which emerged victorious and will represent us in the European Championships in June was Carol-Ann Cummins, John Noonan, Sandra Newell, and Michael McAuliffe. We wish them every success in Madeira. Our thanks to TD Brian Lawlor for running the trials in Templeogue.
The weekend also saw the IBU Club Pairs, online on BBO, with separate events for Masters and Intermediates/Novices. The top placed pairs were:
- Masters: 1st John & Kelan O’Connor; 2nd Martin Brady & David Dunne; 3rd Karel De Raeymaeker & Conor Boland; 4th Máire O’Connor & Suzanne Hill
- Intermediates/Novices: 1st Michelle & Suzie Berkery; 2nd Patricia Bonner & Bridget Blake; 3rd Phil Cretch & Anne-Marie McSweeney; 4th Iain Walker & Paul Clinch
Well done to them all, and thanks to everyone who played. Fearghal O’Boyle and Mairead Basquille did the TD duties for these events.
And in mentioning Fearghal, please join us in congratulating him on recently achieving the level of World Bridge Federation Chief Tournament Director. This is effectively the highest level that a regular working TD can attain, and it is a fantastic achievement on Fearghal’s part. He is the first Irishman to qualify to this rank. Another reminder of how lucky we are to have him not only running competitions for us but also passing on his knowledge and skills through his mentoring of our newer TDs. Many congratulations Fearghal!
