So shortly after the sorrowful news about Mamie MacCormac, we are very sad to report the death of another of the great female stalwarts of Irish bridge, Una Walsh of Galway.
Una was a former President of both the CBAI and the IBU, former Honorary Secretary and Trustee of the CBAI, and long-time Regional Secretary of the Western Region. A sister of the late Paddy, and aunt to David and Clodagh, she will of course be best known to many CBAI members as the publisher of the Irish Bridge Journal, begun by Paddy, but taken over on his early death by Una. Between them, they produced the Journal as a labour of love for more than forty years, until Una called time on her publishing career a couple of years ago, and the CBAI took over the Journal. Una was also a founder of the Galway Bridge Centre. Her contribution to bridge in Ireland was not matched by many.
