The World Bridge Games in Argentina have now concluded. The gold medallists in the various Teams events were: Open – Poland (narrow victors over Ireland in the round of 16); Women – Türkiye; Senior – USA; Mixed – Poland. The Pairs competitions were won by: Open – Joel Wooldridge & Kent Mignocchi (USA); Women – Gianna Arrigoni & Gabriella Olivieri (Italy); Senior – Dan Jacob & Piotr Klimowicz (Canada); Mixed – Suleyman Kolata & Hatice Ozgur (Türkiye). The Pablo Lambardi Transnational Teams was won by Team Shourie, and the Board-A-Match Teams by Team Gauss.
The Irish Open Team, aside from qualifying from their group and losing narrowly to ultimate winners Poland in the first knockout round, also led the Transnational Teams event for several days, ultimately finishing ninth. Special plaudits to Mark Moran & John Carroll who topped the Butler rankings (individual performance) in their qualifying group and came fourth in the Butlers in the Transnational Teams, while Joan Kenny & Jeannie Fitzgerald from our Women’s Team came sixth in the subsequent Women’s Pairs competition.
Well done to all, and thanks again to our members for all their support for our players.
